ATTAWAPISKAT – Attawapiskat will celebrate National Aboriginal Day with activities through the day.

Some had to be cancel or changed due to no funds or lack of funds.

The community received $4000.00 from AFN. Fundraising efforts to raise additional funds were unsuccessful

Tomorrow activities, we will start off with;

12 p.m: Aboriginal Day Parade, 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Theme: “Native Pride”.

Followed by some Drumming & Dancing at Parish Hall, also;
– Cake Contest (Theme: Native Pride) – 9 prizes, 3 categories (gift certificates)

– Face painting for all ages also happening.
We have other activities planned such as Aboriginal Day Baseball Tournament, held by Angela and Dean.. over at KES field. – Prizes there for gift certificates as well for baseball.

– Christine Kataquapit & her helpers will be hosting BBQ.

– Elder Annabella Iahtail and her girls, will be hosting the Shabasdawan Tipi – Community Feast (traditional cooking) starts around 5 or 6 pm. at the river bank.

Last but not least, near the end of evening, Fire Works planned. The fireworks were donated by Northern Stores.
