Morning Accident Sends Man to Thunder Bay Hospital

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – Thunder Bay Police, Fire and EMS responded to an auto/pedestrian collision this morning at 7:20AM EST at the intersection of Harbour Expressway and Balmoral Street.

A yellow pick-up truck being driven by a fifty-five-year-old male driver was southbound on Balmoral Street attempting to make a left turn to go east on the Harbour Expressway.

A sixty-year-old male pedestrian was attempting to cross the intersection in the crosswalk with the pedestrian walk signal showing. The pick-up truck struck the pedestrian, knocking him to the ground and causing a head injury.

There were two separate police vehicles at the intersection at that moment, making the officers both witnesses, and immediate responders.

The pedestrian was rushed to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre by ambulance with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the pick-up truck has been charged with Careless Driving.
