KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Trenton Golden Hawks (OJHL) got a natural hat trick from Lucas Brown and a 28-save shutout courtesy of netminder Daniel Urbani to help lead them to a 4-0 victory over the Soo Thunderbirds (NOJHL) Saturday evening in the championship of the Dudley-Hewitt Cup Central Canada Jr. A tournament at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

The Golden Hawks will now advance to represent the Central region at RBC Cup Canadian Jr. A Championship May 14-22 in Lloydminster, Alta.

In Saturday’s match-up, the lone goal in the opening 20 minutes resulted in some hard work by the Golden Hawks’ Kevin Lavoie who muscled the puck free from the end boards in front to Brown, who chipped his attempt over the shoulder of Soo starter Connor Ryckman at 15:51.

Action in the middle session saw the Thunderbirds out shoot the G-Hawks 10-7, but could not solve the efforts of Urbani in a scoreless frame.

Trenton got some insurance via the man advantage seven and a half minutes into the third as Brown collected his second of the night as he one-timed a Liam Morgan feed from the slot high over top of Ryckman.

Sault Ste. Marie pulled their goaltender late in an effort to get back in it, but Brown capped off his three-goal performance with an empty netter at 18:14.

The Soo removed Ryckman again however Trenton capped off their unbeaten week in Kirkland Lake 30 seconds later as Quinn Lenihan finished things off with a second empty net marker.

Morgan dished out two assists to aid the G-Hawks cause.

Final shots on goal favoured the Golden Hawks 37-28 in the game.
