KENORA – A Kenora resident has been fined a total of $1,300 for trapping violations. Myles Clinton pleaded guilty and was fined $650 for illegally possessing traps and $650 for providing false or misleading information to a conservation officer.
Court heard that on the evening of February 6, 2016, conservation officers contacted Clinton on snowmobile on Lake of the Woods. Officers determined that Clinton was in possession of several body gripping traps, but did not have a trapper’s licence. Clinton had also made several false statements to the officers regarding his trapping activities.
Justice of the Peace Roger McGraw heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Kenora, on April 5, 2016.
The ministry reminds the public that in order to lawfully trap or hunt for most wildlife in Ontario, you must possess a valid licence. In addition, it is an offence to knowingly make a false statement to a conservation officer.
