THUNDER BAY – A standoff that started just after noon is over. Thunder Bay Police report that a fifty-one-year old male is in custody.

Thunder Bay Police were called to check the welfare of the male who resided in a home in the 1400 block of Balmoral Street just after 12:00 p.m. today.  The male appeared very agitated and retreated into the house.  Officers backed away and a gunshot was heard from within the residence.  The area was contained and police responded with a full incident command including tactical officers and negotiators.

Police state that “Public safety was paramount during this incident”.

The man surrendered to police just after 5:00 p.m.  He remains in custody and the investigation is continuing.
