THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – Winter weather conditions have returned to parts of Northwestern Ontario.
There are bands of freezing rain for many parts of the region to the west and north of Thunder Bay.
Freezing rain warning in effect for:
- Sioux Lookout
- Savant Lake – Sturgeon Lake
- Geraldton – Longlac – Caramat
- Manitouwadge – Hornepayne
- Red Lake – Ear Falls
Ice build-up due to freezing rain is expected or occurring according to Environment Canada.
A prolonged freezing rain event is expected today. The Weather Service reports that “A band of freezing rain is expected this morning with the passage of a slow moving arctic cold front. The freezing rain may persist into this afternoon before changing to ice pellets or snow later today”.
Several millimetres of ice accumulation is likely.
Snowfall warning in effect for:
- Fort Hope – Lansdowne House – Ogoki
Snowfall, with total amounts of about 15 cm is expected.
Significant snowfall is expected to develop early this morning. The freezing rain will change to snow early this morning as a cold front pushes south. The snow could be heavy at times with total snowfall accumulation of 15 cm by this evening.
