Hammarskjold School Council Petition Reaches 1,000 Signatures in 11 Days

THUNDER BAY – The Lakehead District School Board has introduced a schools renewal process proposing two options for the future of secondary school education on the north side of Thunder Bay. In response to parent and student concern about the future of Hammarskjold High school, the Hammarskjold School Council has created the “Choose Hammarskjold” Committee.  This committee’s role is to promote the Hammarskjold site as the best option available to Lakehead Board Trustees to encourage the future success and well-being of every high school student on the north side of our city.

To rally public support for the Hammarskjold option, the Choose Hammarskjold committee launched a petition on change.org.  In just 11 days, more than 1,000 people have signed the petition requesting the Lakehead Board choose Hammarskjold as the preferred north side site, with the number of supporters growing daily.

Parent & Student Information Session

In speaking to numerous parents, students and community members, there continues to be a large amount of confusion surrounding the ARC Renewal Plan process and what role the public will play in it.  To help support concerned parents and students, the Hammarskjold School Council will be holding a Parent & Student Information Session on Thursday, April 7, 2016.  This session will provide the Hammarskjold community with the opportunity to learn more about the ARC process as well as the Choose Hammarskjold campaign and opportunities for input.

You are invited to join us at our Parent & Student Information Session on Thursday, April 7th at 7:00pm in the Hammarskjold HS Lecture Theatre.  Members of the school council, as well as Hammarskjold parents and students will be available before and after the session for comments or interviews about the Choose Hammarskjold movement and the schools renewal process.

Our petition can be found at: https://www.change.org/p/lakehead-district-school-board-choose-hammarskjold or by searching “Choose Hammarskjold” on change.org.  Visit our Facebook page “Choose Hammarskjold” and our website www.choosehammarskjold.com for more information and updates on our campaign.

Please contact Choose Hammarskjold Chair, Cheri Lappage, at 807-631-3275 or choosehammarskjold@gmail.com for more information on any of our current efforts.

We hope to see you April 7th at 7:00pm!  We Are Vikings!!
