THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay peewee Kings have advanced to the championship game of the Hockey Northwestern Ontario AAA district championship at Fort William First Nation Arena.

That contest will be against the NWO Stars from the Western Zone Sunday at 9 a.m. back at FWFNA.

The Kings advanced to the final after blasting the same Stars side 10-1 Saturday to conclude robin play.

The Stars earned the other spot in the title match-up after defeating the Eastern Zone Northern Selects 7-2 earlier Saturday.

In the night game, the Kings took control early grabbing a 3-0 lead after one period of play on markers by Jack Cook and a pair by Jeremy Dunmore.

Thunder Bay broke the contest open in the middle session tacking on four more as Dunmore tallied twice again for a four-goal night while Jett Mintenko and Alex Pineau supplied singles.

In the third, Mintenko added another before the Stars got their lone marker from Aidan Bullock putting an end to Brayden McKever’s shutout bid with 6:34 to go.

The Kings then wrapped up the scoring on goals from Nolan Desjardins and Alex Pineau to finish off the one-sided decision.

Dunmore also had two assists for six points while Alex Atwill dished out five helpers and Mintenko picked up three of his own as the Thunder Bay trio combined for 16 points.

The HNO champion will advance to represent the region at the all-Ontario peewee event April 4-8 in Sudbury.
