Weapons Charges Filed in Domestic Incident

Thunder Bay PoliceTHUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police have provided some added details on an incident at the 100 Block of Pruden Street that happened last night around 10:45PM EST. Police report that a forty-six-year old Thunder Bay man now faces a number of charges as a result of the incident.

TBPS state that “A forty-two-year old woman was attempting to remove her belongings from a residence in the 100 block of Pruden Street just before 11:00PM EST last night.

The woman had arrived with a male friend and parked outside the residence.

Her ex-boyfriend, who was at the residence, threatened her with a firearm.  She was able to get back into her car. The vehicle was struck by gun fire, but the victim was able to drive away.  Fortunately, no one was injured.

When police arrived on scene, it was not clear if the accused was still in the residence.  The area was contained and police set up full incident command including the Emergency Task Unit.

Police discovered that the male had fled the scene prior to the initial response.  He was spotted by patrol officers just before 4:00 a.m. in the vicinity of the contained area.   He was arrested at gunpoint.

The charges include:

  • Attempted Murder
  • Assault with a Weapon (2 counts)
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Reckless Discharge of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

The accused cannot be named since the incident stemmed from a domestic relationship.  This is done to protect the identity of the victim.  His next court date is March 11, 2016.
