THUNDER BAY – Quick work by Thunder Bay Fire Rescue helped keep a fire under control. Just before 09:00AM EST, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Service responded to a structural fire in the 200 Block of Copenhagen Rd.
When Fire Rescue crews arrived on the scene, a group home for special needs residents, they reported nothing showing. However it was quickly established that there was a working fire in the basement of the residence.
That first crew, with additional arriving support, was able to quickly attack the fire and bring it under control. Fire and smoke damage was extensive throughout the structure. Fire Investigators were on scene this afternoon to establish cause for the fire.
It should be noted that this residence is in fact a group home for people with special needs and that staff on site had quickly and efficiently evacuated all residents safely before TBFRS arrival. They are to be commended for their quick actions. There were no injuries to report on the fire ground.
