THUNDER BAY – London, Ont. –Katelyn Andrea scored 26 points points and led the women’s basketball team to a 79-71 win over the Western Mustangs Friday evening.

While the Mustangs came into the game competing for top spot in the OUA West, Lakehead entered the game knowing it would be one of their final two remaining games this season.
Lakehead came out hungry, leading 19-10 after the first quarter, only to have Western battle back to within two points, LU up 33-31 at the break.
Katelyn Andrea was the answer time and again down the stretch, as she got out in the open court and her team mates found her with nifty passes. Andrea grabbed 10 rebounds and went 12-of-16 from the field and could have scored 30, had it not been for a 2-for-7 mark at the free throw line.
Gillian Lavoie scored 14 points with 9 rebounds while Bridget O’Reilly scored 18 points, hitting 4 of 10 three point attempts, with 10 points coming in the fourth quarter.
O’Reilly keyed Lakehead’s run in the final quarter, as the ‘Wolves out-scored Western 29-20 in the final 10 minutes to come away with the victory.
Caroline Wolynski led the Mustangs with 22 points. Lakehead out-rebounded Western 41-33.
Coach Jon Breiner stated postgame, “This was a very big team win for us as we wind down the season. We put a lot of things together tonight, made plays, worked hard especially rebounding and executed all game. Most importantly we didn’t get down when Western went on a 11-0 run in the second quarter and responded. Andrea was fantastic all night but it was Lavoie’s defensive rebounds and the team’s tenacity on the offensive glass that was the difference.”
Lakehead completes their season tomorrow against the Windsor Lancers at 6:30pm.
