Natural Gas Leak Shuts Down Northcore Downtown

THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Fire Rescue (TBFR) is presently on the scene of a significant natural gas leak on St. Paul St. between Red River Road and Van Norman St. 
 
A number of buildings have already been evacuated as the result of natural gas migration into the buildings. City Transit has provided buses for shelter and to support the evacuation effort.  The Branch 5 legion has been secured as an evacuation site, if required.
 
Thunder Bay Police are providing assistance with establishing an isolation perimeter around the source of the leak.  The TBFR Platoon Chief is presently in command of the scene and mitigation efforts are being coordinated with Union Gas personnel. TBFR presently has four pumpers and 18 personnel committed to the incident.
 
Residents and motorists are encouraged to stay clear of area until the situation has been resolved and TBFR has deemed the area safe. More information will be released as information becomes available.
