THUNDER BAY – CRIME – The Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police report that over the weekend they made a drug arrest as a result of a traffic stop on the north-side of the city.
In a media release, OPP report, “On Saturday, January 30, 2016 at approximately 11:52PM EST, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11/17 and Balsam Street.
Police state, “While speaking with the driver, officers detected an odour of Marijuana emitting from the vehicle. The police investigation resulted in the arrest of the male driver and passenger and officers conducted a search of the vehicle”.
Police located approximately 2.5 pounds of Marijuana within the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation a forty-two-year-old Thunder Bay man was arrested and charged with;
-Possession of a Schedule ll Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Marijuana
-Produce a Schedule ll Substance – Marijuana, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, as well as,
-Fail to Comply with Recognizance contrary to the Criminal Code.
Meanwhile, a forty-nine-year-old Thunder Bay man was also arrested and charged with;
-Possession of a Schedule ll Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Marijuana,
-Produce a Schedule ll Substance – Marijuana, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Both men were held in custody for a video court appearance.
