THUNDER BAY – NEWS – Thunder Bay Police advise that thirty-seven-year old Nicholas Joseph Necan has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder, two counts of Assault with a Weapon, and Failing to Comply with an Undertaking in connection with the death of sixty-year-old George James Gerald.

Thunder Bay Police officers were called to a disturbance at the Casablanca Apartments on Simpson Street yesterday afternoon.  Responding officers confronted Necan and took him into custody after a struggle.  One of the officers was physically threatened by the suspect, but was not injured.  George James Gerard was transported to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre where he was pronounced dead.

Further investigation of this incident revealed another physical threat by Necan to a sixty-two-year old female victim who was also at the Simpson Street location. She was not injured.

Police state that Necan was not a resident of the Simpson Street apartment building, but is believed to have had a limited connection to the deceased.

Necan’s next court date is February 19, 2016.
