THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The volunteer Organizing Committee of the Thunder Bay Triathlon deeply regret to announce that they will be discontinuing organizing the event.

The Thunder Bay Triathlon which began in 2013, featured a Long Course, Short Course, Try-a-Tri, Duathlon, and Relay events. Since its inception, the event had been well received and supported by athletes near and far. Since its humble beginnings, the Thunder Bay Triathlon organizing committee has put in a tremendous amount of work to develop and secure this premier event for the city of Thunder Bay. It was the group’s vision to grow the event to include more participants and additional course options each year.

In 2015 the Thunder Bay Triathlon was forced to cancel its event due to scheduled construction at Boulevard Lake, the site of the event. Unfortunately construction did not occur in 2015 and the organizing committee was informed late in 2015 that construction would now occur in 2017, leading to another planned event cancellation. Cancellations are detrimental to an event’s momentum and success and is the precipitating factor for the organizers formally discontinuing the Thunder Bay Triathlon.

We would like to extend our sincerest thanks to the entire community for its support of our event. To the many volunteers that gave their time for the love of the sport, we recognize and appreciate your generosity. To the athletes that participated and gave it their all in every race and smiled the entire way, we thank you.

Sincerely,
Organizing Committee
