THUNDER BAY – Breaking – This morning, the Nipigon Bridge has been opened for traffic – One lane has been opened. Overnight crews placed heavy concrete blocks on the bridge in an effort to stabilize the structure.
The move to open the bridge comes about an hour after the Ontario Provincial Police reported that the bridge would be closed indefinitely.
Traffic on the bridge will be alternating with east and then westbound vehicles, led reportedly by a pilot vehicle.
It is not known at this time how long the bridge may be open for traffic, or if the opening is to help clear some of the backlog of trucks and vehicles.
