Freezing Rain its possible in Ontario's Far North

THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – 13:15 EST – Freezing Rain Warning has been ended….

Travel heading west of Thunder Bay could be impacted today by freezing rain warnings that have been issued by Environment Canada.

The warnings are in effect for:

  • Atikokan – Shebandowan – Quetico Park
  • Upsala – Raith
  • Seine River Village – Mine Centre
  • Ignace – English River

Freezing rain is expected or occurring in those regions.

The weather service report, “Radar indicates a slow moving band of rain and freezing rain west of Thunder Bay near and south of the Trans Canada highway. The potential for freezing rain and icy surfaces is expected to persist for the next several hours.”

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.

Freezing Rain Warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

For Thunder Bay, the forecast is calling for rain shifting to snow today. There are no warnings in effect for Thunder Bay at this time.
