PITTSBURGH, Penn. – The Thunder Bay Goldcorp midget A Queens wrapped up play at the Pittsburgh Elite Thanksgiving Classic tournament in Pennsylvania Saturday with a win and a narrow loss.
Thunder Bay began the day with a 2-0 shutout of the Armstrong Arrows from Kitanning, Penn., before concluding the tourney with a 2-1 setback at the hands of the Toronto Leaside Wildcats.
Against the Arrows the contest was scoreless through two periods before the Queens got the eventual game-winner from Danielle Saunders on an assist by Zoe Hynnes with 11:39 to go in the game.
Breanna Veneruz then added some insurance with Saunders helping set it up.
Taylor Gombola posted the shutout for Thunder Bay in the triumph.
In the match-up vs. Toronto, Leaside scored the game-winner on the power play with five minutes remaining to pull out the victory.
Delaney McLeod had the lone Queens tally, which came in the second period.
Cameron Ivall suffered the setback in net for Thunder Bay.
Overall the club went 1-2-1 in the tourney.
The next out of town action for the Goldcorp midget A Queens will be the CAN/AM Challenge Cup Feb. 12-15 in Madison, Wis.
