Guelph – SPORTS – The Lakehead University Thunderwolves women’s volleyball team bounced back in a big way on Friday, winning 3-0 over the Guelph Gryphons (25-22, 25-23, 25-20).
“So, better game tonight,” opened coach Chris Green. “The girls did a lot of personal prep concentrating on how they were going to play. Yesterday, we talked about having a balanced performance and better distribution. In the end, we got that and had a much better flow to our game.”
A balanced attack it was, with Kailan Robinson putting up 16 points, followed by veteran Jen Casey with 12.5 points.
Vanessa Masters set a beautiful game, collecting 39 assists in the match. Lakehead was also the better defensive team, making 45 digs to Guelph’s 26.
Coach Chris Green explains the team’s approach, saying, “The ladies literally executed the game plan perfectly. Vanessa Masters set her best game of the year and that happened because our passers were strong and consistent. Kailan Robinson played the game as a left side should. Jen Casey returned to the floor for the first full game of this season and performed wonderfully. Now it’s time to travel to Ottawa and take on the Gee Gee’s.”
With the win the ‘Wolves improve to 4-5 on the season, and travel next to Ottawa to take on the Gee-Gees, Sunday at 2 pm.
