THUNDER BAY – POLITICS – Over recent days, Prime Minister Designate Justin Trudeau has garnered massive coverage in the world’s media and across social media. Canada’s next Prime Minister has been treated like a tabloid pin-up in media reports around the world.
Many, including many voters here in Canada seem to feel that somehow rather than policy and action what is really important are Justin Trudeau’s looks, his hair, his tattoo and all kinds of things that honestly really don’t matter.
There are women swooning over Justin Trudeau in major cases of puppy love. “I love you Justin” is being whispered in his ear from a lot of women.
Justin Trudeau, rather than being taken seriously for his immediate stand on policy of pulling Canada out of the air bombing campaign against ISIS in the Middle East is being treated as an object.
Being objectified like this does poor service to Canada, and poor service to Justin Trudeau.
The Liberal leader is likely to face this kind of reporting and group adulation for a while. The Liberals generated a lot of excitement during the campaign.
Perhaps however letting the Prime Minister Designate get down to the serious issues should be seen as what should be covered.
In the first days since the Monday election, Mr. Trudeau has been taking to the task with a very professional and serious approach.
His rapid announcement that Canada will pull out of the air strikes against ISIS in the Middle East is a bold but very predictable move.
Trudeau has announced a goal of having safe drinking water in First Nation communities within five years.
The next Prime Minister is doing what he said he would, and that is what Canadians and the media should be looking at.
For those ladies swooning over and falling in love with Justin Trudeau, it might be worth noting he is a married man, has a beautiful wife and a family. One wonders how some of those women might feel if there were other women looking to chase after their husbands.
