THUNDER BAY – NEWS – The City of Thunder Bay report that a section of James Street has been closed to through traffic while repairs are made to a broken water main.

The break in the water main occurred on Wednesday afternoon on James between Marquette Street and Donald Street.

James Street between Arthur Street and Victoria Avenue has been closed to all through traffic while repairs take place. The closure is expected to remain in place until the end of the week.

There is no loss of water service to residents in the area. However, water flows were altered to keep service, and as a result, some south side residents may notice discoloured water coming from taps. Water pressure, taste or clarity may also be affected for a short period.

If south side residents notice any changes in the water coming from taps, the following steps should be taken:

  1. Do not open any hot water taps.
  2. Open only one cold water tap (a tap that does not have a water filter system attached to it and is not a combination tap) and allow the water to flow at a medium flow until the water runs clear.
  3. Once the single cold water tap is running clear, open all other taps including hot water taps and flush until all water runs clear.

Running the cold water taps for up to five minutes should clear any discoloured water. If tap water does not clear after following the procedure above, residents can contact Infrastructure & Operations Dispatch at 625-2195.
