THUNDER BAY – Environment Canada has a freezing rain alert in effect for parts of Northwestern Ontario.

Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Marathon – Schreiber
  • Nipigon – Rossport
  • Geraldton – Longlac – Caramat
  • Manitouwadge – Hornepayne
  • Nakina – Aroland – Pagwa
  • Sioux Lookout – Savant Lake

The weather service says there is a threat of freezing rain Wednesday.

An Alberta clipper is forecast to merge with a developing Colorado low over Lake Superior by late Wednesday. Although it not expected to be a particularly significant disturbance, sufficient moisture is likely to produce a band of mixed precipitation around the northern periphery of Lake Superior. Some areas will receive several centimetres of snow while others are expected to be on the receiving end of persistent freezing rain.

A freezing rain warning may be required as the path of the low and affected regions become more certain.
