Rusnak Says NDP Claims on First Nations Education Funding False
THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Rainy River Liberal candidate Don Rusnak is firing back at the New Democrats.
“In a press release issued yesterday, the NDP claimed that ;six weeks after promising specific new money for First Nation’s education, Liberal leader Justin Trudeau has abandoned his commitment to First Nations children’,” state the TBRR Liberals.
Don Rusnak says this claim couldn’t be further from the truth: “The Liberal Party has a real plan for First Nations education, starting with increased funding and more control from First Nations.”
“The Liberal’s plan to provide education and economic opportunity for First Nations commits $2.6 billion for core First Nations education over the next four years. It includes not only the funding promised and never delivered by Stephen Harper, but an additional $300 million annually,” explains Rusnak.
“Speaking as the first Aboriginal candidate in the riding, I find it frustrating that instead of putting forward any actual plan for First Nations education, the NDP simply makes false and baseless attacks about the Liberal’s plan,” added Rusnak. “The Liberal party believes in First Nations control of First Nations education, with the federal government working nation-to-nation as a partner to ensure the goals set by First Nations are achieved.”
