GM Ice Dogs McPhail named named initial Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions player of the weekTHUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League has announced that Dryden GM Ice Dogs captain Derek McPhail has been named the opening Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp. player of the week for the 2015-16 regular season.

In two games this past week the 18-year-old Kaministiquia, Ont., product helped Dryden begin the campaign with a pair of home ice victories over their long-time rival the Thunder Bay North Stars.

He began his season in impressive fashion by notching an opening night hat trick and doling out two assists as Dryden dropped Thunder Bay 5-2 at Memorial Arena.

Now in his fourth season in the SIJHL, McPhail has seen action in 129 career games, scoring 37 times and setting up 48 more for 85 points.

Also receiving consideration for the SIJHL Amyotte’s player of the week was: Jackson Bond, (F) Minnesota Iron Rangers, Landen Matechuk, (F) English River Miners and Riley Corbin, (G) Thunder Bay North Stars.

Note: The Fort Frances Lakers did not play during the opening weekend of league play.
