THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The Ottawa Senators will challenge the Chicago Blackhawks on January 3 2016 as a part of the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour.
Look who’s coming to town! Canada’s ultimate hockey festival is set for another season-long, cross-country celebration as Rogers today unveiled the 24 communities that will host the 2015-16 Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour presented by Scotiabank and Dodge (see locations, dates and broadcast details below and attached).
This season’s celebrations promise to be bigger, highlighting the best of each town and its deep hockey roots. Each stop will feature NHL Alumni, hometown heroes, local entertainment, and all new hockey stories delivered by host Ron MacLean, who once again takes his familiar spot inside the Sportsnet Mobile Studio every Sunday.
“Each weekend is a uniquely Canadian experience that brings us all together,” said MacLean. “Our mantra has been simple – take you someplace and tell a story. We’ve discovered at each stop a story that belongs to us as no other story could. It’s of Canadians, with hockey at its core.”
Kicking Off In Kitchener
Season two kicks off in grand style as Rogers Hometown Hockey hits the streets of Kitchener, ON during Thanksgiving weekend for a special three-day celebration beginning Friday, Oct. 9 through to Sunday, Oct. 11. On Sunday, Juno award-winning rock band Barenaked Ladies will perform new single “Duct Tape Heart” from their latest album, Silverball, leading into the season’s first Rogers Hometown Hockey broadcast featuring the Ottawa Senators hosting the Montreal Canadiens at 6:30 p.m. ET / 3:30 p.m. PT on Sportsnet.
Ongoing Festivities
Each stop on the 2015-16 Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour will deliver a jam-packed weekend of free outdoor festivities in the heart of each community, celebrating all things hockey. This season will feature the return of fan favourite activations such as the Sportsnet Be a Broadcaster, Scotiabank Community Locker Room and the Dodge Stow ‘n Go Challenge, as well as new GamePlus experiences, taking you behind-the-scenes of Rogers Hometown Hockey and bringing you closer to the stars of the game.
Sundays on Sportsnet
MacLean picks up where he left off inside the Sportsnet Mobile Studio each Sunday on Sportsnet, along with familiar face Tara Slone, who returns as sideline reporter throughout the season. The pre-game show, intermission and post-game will continue to feature special guests, NHL Alumni and other Sportsnet personalities, including features on local NHL players and grassroots stories.
