THUNDER BAY – Mayor Keith Hobbs and members of the Crime Prevention Council officially opened nominations for the fifth annual Mayor’s Community Safety Awards today at City Hall.

The awards recognize Thunder Bay residents and organizations that work to make our city safer. The presenting Sponsor is Thunder Bay Hydro.

“Each year, when the nominations for the Mayor‘s Community Safety Awards start coming in, we are inspired by the commitment and dedication of the individuals and organizations that work to make our city a better place for everyone,” said Mayor Keith Hobbs. “The folks working to make a difference in our community are nothing short of amazing and I am proud to share Thunder Bay with them.”

Nominations must be received by Oct. 2, and will be awarded in three categories:

  • Community Hero Award – For an outstanding individual effort that contributes to a safer community. Sponsor: Apex Investigations & Security Inc.
  • Young Leader Award – For outstanding contributions by a youth who demonstrates and encourages active participation in community safety. The youth is a leader in a project in their community. Sponsor: Shout! Media
  • Outstanding Community Project Award – For outstanding results in community safety or crime prevention through partnership and collaboration. Up to four projects may be awarded. Sponsors: Macs Convenience Stores, Thunder Bay Police Services Board and Union Gas

“Thunder Bay Hydro recognizes that the foundation of a safe community is both complex and multi-faceted,” said Eileen Dias, Communications and Events Coordinator with Thunder Bay Hydro. “As a company, we seek to appreciate those in the community who have identified unique solutions and are working to bring them to reality.  We are pleased to join the Mayor’s Community Safety Awards to applaud their efforts.”

The awards will be presented during a special ceremony that will take place during the Nov. 2 meeting of City Council.
