Celebrity chef to provide hands-on learning experience for culinary students
THUNDER BAY – LIVING – Confederation College students are excited to welcome special guest Chef Michael Smith to campus on September 24th. Chef Smith is helping the College to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its Community Partners’ Evening presented by Tbaytel, a premier networking event featuring gourmet food stations in support of student awards.
Beyond attending and cooking at the event, Chef Smith’s visit will also provide the unique opportunity for students in Confederation’s Culinary Management program to get tips, insights and training from this culinary star.
“I’m a big fan of Confederation College and thrilled to be returning for another visit,” said Chef Michael Smith. “I’m looking forward to spending time with the many talented students in the culinary program and to meeting the movers and shakers of Thunder Bay. This school is a vital part of the community and together we can really show our support!”
Chef Smith visited a number of years ago and worked with students on campus. The calibre of the experience has the students and faculty eager to welcome him back once again.
Celebrity chef Michael Smith Will be at Community Partners’ Evening to raise funds for student awards
“Working with a chef with Michael’s reputation and passion can be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our students,” said Tim Matthews, Program Coordinator of the Culinary Management program. “In addition to the training he will provide, his success also shows our students that the education they’re receiving at Confederation can help them take their lives and careers anywhere and to any level.”
Matthews added that participation in the event itself is also important for his students. “We always love this event as it gives our students a chance to showcase what they’re learning in the program and help their fellow students in raising much needed funds.”
Chef Michael Smith’s visit is sponsored by Sodexo, food service provider at Confederation College. Guests of the event will have the opportunity to mingle with Chef Smith throughout the evening and purchase his latest cookbook, Make Ahead Meals (to be released just before the event). Chef Smith will be available to sign each book personally if desired.
