Aroland First Nation – The Nishnawbe-Aski Nation Chiefs have chosen a new Grand Chief, Alvin Fiddler was elected this afternoon in a first round voting win. For Deputy Grand Chief, the Chiefs have choosen Derek Fox, Terry Waboose and Anna Betty Achneepineskum as their new Deputy Grand Chiefs.
The move has placed three new Deputy Grand Chiefs into power.
The election of Derek Fox came after the first round of voting. Terry Waboose was elected on the third ballot. Anna Betty Achneepineskum was elected on the fourth ballot.
The induction ceremonies are underway, with the Deputy Grand Chiefs going first followed by the Grand Chief.
The newly elected NAN Council starts work immediately and the NAN Council continues on Thursday.
