THUNDER BAY – LIVING – The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) will celebrate Silver Harbour Day on Saturday, August 15th 2015 at the Silver Harbour Conservation Area, which is one of five LRCA owned and operated Conservation Areas located on Lake Superior. The day begins at 9:30AM and runs until 2:30PM EDT.
The schedule of events includes the Canadian Coast Guard vessel Cape Chaillon docking at 9:45AM and remaining on site for visitors to see and talk to the crew (weather permitting, and subject to search and rescue responsibilities); Skyline Falconry will be conducting a falconry presentation at 11:00AM and the Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry (MNRF) will also be conducting a demonstration of their K-9 Unit at 1:00 p.m. Additionally, the Shuniah Fire and Rescue Services and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will be in attendance.
Be sure to visit the LRCA’s interpretive table; the LRCA will also be teaching people about the unique geology of the Silver Harbour Area.
“Silver Harbour Conservation Area is a hugely popular location for both local residents and boaters. We are proud to be able to offer this beautiful spot for people to enjoy, and Silver Harbour Day is a great way to invite other organizations to help share their messages alongside the LRCA,” says LRCA Chair Bill Bartley.
Admission to the event is free of charge.
