Vermilion Bay Seniors Get Support from New Horizons for Seniors

VERMILION BAY, ON – Monday, July 27, 2015 – Monday, the Hon. Greg Rickford was in Vermilion Bay to announce support for the Happy-Go-Lucky Seniors Centre through the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP).

“The New Horizons for Seniors Program has been extremely popular in the Kenora riding. Organizations and municipalities have been able to renovate and upgrade facilities, provide programming and services to seniors and organize activities and festivals; all in the name of promoting healthy, active, social lifestyles for all seniors. I am very pleased to make this great announcement here today,” stated The Hon. Greg Rickford, MP-Kenora.

“We appreciate what Greg has done for us over the last while with the grants that we’ve had and it’s going to make it so much better for our seniors. [This] is great for our seniors and for our club and I don’t think we can thank Greg enough for his continued support for us,” commented Garry Parkes, President of the Happy-Go-Lucky Seniors Centre.

The $25,000 investment through the New Horizons for Seniors Program will support the “Keeping A Lid On It” project; renovating the Centre’s roof and storage building to improve safety and support new and continuing activities.

  • Under the NHSP, up to $25,000 in grant funding can be provided to eligible organizations for community-based projects that are led or inspired by seniors
  • Economic Action Plan 2014 increased funding for the NHSP by $5 million/year, for a total of $50 million provided to this program annually
