THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada Staal Foundation Open is now officially open. At the opening ceremonies this morning on the 18th green at Whitewater Golf Club the official opening shot was fired off with cannon fire from Fort William Historical Park.

Community dignitaries including Minister Bill Mauro, Mayor Keith Hobbs, and Lucy Kloosterhuis, the Mayor of Oliver Paipoonge.

There is lots of activities ongoing this week for the tournament that range out from just the exciting golf action.

Today is the Celebrity Pro-Am with players including NHL legends, and other well known personalities.

There will be a mini hockey Hall of Fame, a Formula One race car, and a youth area.

Eric Staal stated “It is heartwarming and humbling to see the community get firmly behind the competition and all of the activities across the course and in the city. This is home. We were raised here and although we spend most of our year away playing, we never feel as good as when we are in Thunder Bay.

Monday is the celebrity Pro-Am with lots of excitement.
