Hodgkinson Reports on Guardian Angels and New Directions
THUNDER BAY – The Guardian Angels in Canada are shifting their focus. Six months ago, Ian Hodgekinson started the Guardian Angels in Canada here in Thunder Bay. The program has been evolving based on the analysis of what is needed in Thunder Bay. Hodgkinson states that the entire Guardian Angels movement is shifting and evolving.
In moving forward in Thunder Bay, Hodgkinson will be moving the Guardian Angels away from street patrols, and working more closely with youth, and more directly with people in need. This course has come after careful analysis and observations on what the capacities and needs are in the city.
Through programs with Community Living Thunder Bay, and with an anti-bullying program with high schools in the city, Hodgkinson believes that the Guardian Angels in Thunder Bay have found their niche.
“Motivate, empower, and educate is our goal,” stated Hodgkinson. There are specific programs like the Urban Angels that has started that have seen very positive results, and seen those results in a hurry that are capturing the passion of the Guardian Angels.
Working with youth, through a program called Urban Angels, and with partnerships that the Guardian Angels are forging with a number of groups, the over-reaching goal of motivating and empowering youth and people at risk across the region can be realized.
Hodgkinson appears to have found a solid means of doing so.
Stay tuned… more is yet to come.
