THUNDER BAY – On June 26, 2015, Thunder Bay Police were dispatched at 5:10PM EDT to attend a call at Prince Arthur’s Landing regarding two intoxicated individuals who were at the end of Pier 2 at the boardwalk.

When police officers arrived on scene, they located a male and female who were intoxicated and uncooperative. While officers were dealing with the female, the male walked across the wooden boardwalk and fell over the north edge and subsequently bounced over several large rocks and then rolled into Lake Superior.

One of the officers quickly removed his duty belt and body armour and entered the water. He located the male 10 feet below the surface of the water on the bottom of the lake. The officer swam the male to the shoreline and was assisted by the other officer and citizens who were in the area at the time of the incident.

Officers conducted first aid on the male until Superior EMS arrived on scene. The forty-one-year old male had superficial injuries and was escorted by ambulance to the hospital where he was treated and released.

The thirty-five-year old female was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and escorted to the Balmoral Police Station where she remained until she was sober.
