Kenora – Politics – New Democrats in the riding of Kenora have chosen Howard Hampton to be their candidate to face Greg Rickford and join NDP Leader Tom Mulcair in bringing change to Ottawa by replacing Stephen Harper’s Conservatives.
“Howie understands the unique challenges facing middle class families in the North and knows how to get things done,” said Mulcair. “For over 20 years, Howie has demonstrated skill, understanding, and respect while passionately fighting for the people, industries, communities of the North.”
A former Cabinet Minister, Leader of the Ontario NDP, and Member of Provincial Parliament, Hampton says, as Tom Mulcair’s Special Advisor for the Ring of Fire, he has seen just how badly Northwestern Ontario’s economy has suffered under the Conservatives.
“The Harper Conservatives are incapable of building the respectful and cooperative relationships with First Nations and the communities in the North,” said Hampton. “Stephen Harper’s plan is just not working and I’m proud to add my experience to Tom Mulcair’s principled, and trustworthy leadership.”
Howard was elected after a series of meetings held last week where New Democrats came out to vote across the riding in Sioux Lookout, Dryden, Red Lake, and Kenora.
“I am very excited and ready to work hard to bring the change that Canada needs,” said Hampton.
