OPP Update on Marathon Accident

OPPMARATHON – The Ontario Provincial Police report that on Tuesday June 16, 2015 approximately 06:00AM EDT, officers from the OPP Marathon detachment were advised of a motor vehicle collision involving two motor vehicles on Highway 17 near the Black River Bridge approximately 15 km east of Marathon ON.

A westbound motor vehicle, a Pontiac Sun Fire, crossed the center line colliding with a westbound motor vehicle, a Ford Escape.

Two males from Quebec aged 18 and 19 were pronounced dead at the scene. EMS attended and transported 3 other occupants involved in the collision to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The highway was closed for 8 hours while OPP Technical Collision Investigators attended. The highway was then open to 1 lane of traffic while emergency crews and tow trucks removed the vehicles from the scene.
