THUNDER BAY – The Ontario Provincial Police are reporting on a homicide in the First Nation community of Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug – KI or Big Trout Lake.
In a media statement released by the OPP they say, that “On June 3, 2015 at approximately 8:15pm (CST) officers responded to a residence on Mikisee Road in the community of Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug (Big Trout Lake) First Nation after receiving a report of a male that had been seriously injured and was in need of medical assistance.”
The male was transported to the nursing station where he was pronounced dead.
The victim has been identified as thirty-five-year-old Darren Cromarty from Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation. A post mortem examination will be conducted but the location.
Members of the Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of the North West Region Forensic Identification Unit and North West Region Crime Unit under the direction of Detective Inspector Dave Robinson of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are investigating the circumstances surrounding this death.
OPP state, “On June 3, 2015, twenty-eight-year-old Marina Crow from Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation was arrested”.
Crow has been charged with Second Degree Murder in the incident.
Crow was remanded into custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Sioux Lookout on June 5, 2015.
