THUNDER BAY – Wasaya Airways has announced starting on Tuesday, June 9th,  that the airline will begin to offer new nonstop flights out of Thunder Bay to the communities of Sandy Lake and Big Trout Lake, also known as Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation.

In addition, these new flights will allow Wasaya to offer one stop, same plane service to Webequie and Pikangikum.

Wayasa Airways has faced serious concerns from many community members in recent months over safety issues.

“In order to meet the market demands of these loyal communities, we are introducing nonstop service from Thunder Bay to Sandy Lake and Big Trout Lake,” states Dean Woloschuk, Senior Director of Commercial Services. “It is a big investment for the company but the timing is perfect. These additional flights will allow for reduced travel time, making them much more convenient for our guests and will allow us to open up seats to better serve guests in the Thunder Bay to Sioux Lookout market.”

Wasaya Airways will be re-introducing an additional B-1900 aircraft to the fleet to increase productivity and accommodate the newly added flights.

“This is just the beginning of more great changes to come for our airline. We expect our flight services to continue expanding in the future by adding new routes as needed for our guests,” says Donnie Macklin, Director of Operations, who adds that, “Our planes are designed to fly safely above the weather conditions frequently encountered in Northwestern Ontario. Our B-1900 aircraft are pressurized, air conditioned and fast; features which are appreciated by our guests.”
