Residents Advised on Water Issues

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – Two trunk water mains extending from the Bare Point Water Treatment Plant, which were successfully replaced last fall, are scheduled for commissioning today, Thursday, April 30.

During the final stages of the commissioning of the two trunk water mains, residents in the area of Bare Point may notice discoloured water coming from taps. Water pressure, taste or clarity may also be affected for a short period.

If residents notice any changes in the water coming from taps, the following steps should be taken:

1. Do not open any hot water taps.
2. Open only one cold water tap (a tap that does not have a water filter system attached to it and is not a combination tap) and allow the water to flow at a medium flow until the water runs clear.
3. Once the single cold water tap is running clear, open all other taps including hot water taps and flush until all water runs clear.

Running the cold water taps for up to five minutes should clear any discoloured water. If tap water does not clear after following the procedure above, residents can contact Infrastructure & Operations Dispatch at 625-2195.
