THUNDER BAY – WRESTLING – On March 24th 2015 it was reported on Sun Media’s “Slam Wrestling” website that Great North Wrestling Canadian Champion Hannibal “The Animal” will be starting with the new US based Crucial Conflict Wrestling group (CCW) and this his first matches for the company will take place at The Annex in Winston Salem North Carolina on May 16th and “The US Cellular Center” in Asheville NC on May 23rd.
CCW officials will reportedly be announcing a National TV deal in the coming months, making this a potentially life-changing opportunity for Hannibal whose real name is Devon Nicholson.
Nicholson has been in the Canadian media a lot in recent years for a number of reasons. Hannibal is known to Thunder Bay fans for being a star performer in two successful GNW events at Fort Williams Gardens.
Hannibal had this to say about joining CCW, “I am very excited! The wrestling product on TV right now is stale, there is politics involved in the hiring and from what I understand talent is not allowed much creativity. I think that it’s about time that a new, seriously competitive wrestling league emerges that will give talent such as myself the chance to show the wrestling world what it’s been missing a national level”.
NetNewsLedger also had the opportunity to speak to Laura Winchester, Operations Manager and Quality Auditor for Crucial Conflict Wrestling.
NNL: What is the goal for CCW in the wrestling business and how is your product going to differ from that of other companies out there such as WWE?
Winchester: “CCW’s goal is to create a fresh new approach to professional wrestling. Our desire is to create jobs for those who have mainstream talent. Our mission is to help in bringing pro wrestling to the forefront.”
NNL: What can you tell us about the buzz flying around that CCW will have a weekly television show on a National platform? Will CCW have a presence in the ever growing internet video market?
Winchester : “CCW has worked to achieve various platforms for our audience to engage in our product. Among those are both local and national television and internet campaigns.”
NNL: Who are the main players in charge of running CCW?
Winchester : CCW is ran by a board of directors that is chaired by the Kennedy family. Eddie Ortega is the COO and I (Laura Winchester) am the operations manager.
NNL: Why does CCW think Hannibal will be a good fit for their events?
Winchester : Hannibal was scouted by Ron Kennedy (CCW agent) and when we saw his body of work we were immediately drawn to him. There is no one factor, but rather an entire picture. The stigma of his character. The amazing intensity. His charisma. Those only add to the physique and power. He is the model of CCW
When asked if wrestling for CCW will affect Hannibal wrestling in Canada on Great North Wrestling events he responded, “I think me performing for CCW will only add to the constantly growing popularity of GNW because it will expose me to new audiences.
“I am still very committed to GNW.”
GNW fans will be able to catch Hannibal May 29th at the Memorial Center in Smiths Falls and May 30th at the Earl Armstrong Arena in Ottawa on events that will also feature Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake.
GNW officials say a return to Thunder Bay is still on their radar.
