THUNDER BAY – Gillies Community Centre will again be hosting a Seed Swap and Social where gardeners, and people who want to learn gardening, can not only pick up heirloom and locally produced seeds, but can chat and learn about gardening in northwestern Ontario. This is a great opportunity for new gardeners to obtain non-GMO seeds and learn more about growing their own food.
As well as gardening displays, there will be presentations on
- Composting using worms
- Building a greenhouse in your backyard, and
- Gardening in our short growing season
Beginner and experienced gardeners, as well, will be invited to use their gardening skills to benefit others, by growing an extra row of vegetables, or earmark fruit and vegetables from their garden for donation to the rural food bank.
Displays will include information from other gardening-related organizations such as EcoSuperior, Food Security Research Network, Superior Seed Producers, Thunder Bay Beekeepers’ Association and more! See the full listing on the events page at www.gilliescommunitycentre.com
