Lappe Nordic in Thunder Bay – Ski Action Returns Today
THUNDER BAY – Monday was relatively quiet at Lappe Nordic Ski Centre. As a rest day in between races at the Haywood 2015 Ski Nationals, Fast and Female hosted a Champ Chat for any girls interested, aged 8-18.
This is not the first time Fast and Female has been in Thunder Bay, but this was a ski specific event, with a new group of Ambassadors.
The girls thirteen and under joined ambassadors (varsity and national team athletes) for some on-snow skill development and games, then wrapped up the day with a motivational chat with Olympian and World Cup Team Member, Perianne Jones, and National Team Member, Alysson Marshall.
The girls 14+ participated in a panel discussion with numerous athletes who have successfully combined being an elite athlete and completing post-secondary education. The panel was led by Olympian Madeline Williams, who was joined by Andrea Lee (Michigan Tech, M. Sc), Kendra Murray (Carleton U), Kasja Heyes (Nipissing U), Frederique Vezina(CGEP), Heidi Widmer(Athabasca U), and Alannah McLean (Lakehead U/NDC Thunder Bay).
The ambassadors and panel members hope to motivate the young athletes to continue with sport, and emphasize the possibility of achieving high levels of success in both sport and academics simultaneously.
