THUNDER BAY – Part of the appeal of a live program is that viewers might witness an unscripted moment. While the open Board meeting live webcast doesn’t quite deliver the same level of suspenseful drama, it still offers those who tune in with an informative view of what’s happening at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC).
As part of its commitment to transparency and accountability to patients and families in Northwestern Ontario, TBRHSC has made the open meetings of its Board of Directors accessible for viewing via a live webcast.
The option makes it possible for anyone interested in the decisions being made about the hospital to watch the open meetings online from home, whether it’s in Thunder Bay, across Northwestern Ontario, or beyond. The open meetings occur monthly and are webcast live via the Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN).
“Webcasting the open Board meetings allows us to provide patients and families from across the region with a front row seat on the decisions being made about the hospital,” said Chisholm Pothier, Vice President Communications and Engagement, Aboriginal Relations, Government Relations. “It’s also another innovative way that we use technology to overcome the vast distance of Northwestern Ontario.”
On the day of an open meeting, viewers can go online to www.tbhrsc.net/webcast. There, they will find a link to the webcast, a meeting agenda, and a full schedule of upcoming open meetings. Webcasting begins at the time prescribed on the agenda, and ends immediately after the adjournment of the open meeting.
The Board of Directors is responsible for governing the affairs of the Health Sciences Centre, such as regularly reviewing the role and responsibility of the hospital to its community in relation to the provision of services and approving the hospital’s annual budget.
