THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The first Thunder Mountain Volleyball Tournament will be held on Saturday, March 6th, 2015 at Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School.
This tournament is the first mixed competitive tournament that is being held in Thunder Bay and at DFC.
There will be 12 teams all vying to claim the championship prize of $1800.00; second place is $1200.00; and third place is $600.00.
This tournament will include teams that are local and those from around the region. There will be teams from as far as Kenora and Whitefish Bay.
DFC will also be entering a team.
“The purpose of this tournament is to bring communities together and showcase the talents of both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal players,” said Michael Mckay.
“Thunder Bay has yet to capitalize on its location when it comes to volleyball. We’re certainly happy to provide a social venue for all players to interact, compete, and have some fun,” commented Travis Boissoneau.
As DFC has graciously offered their space for the day’s event, the tournament will also be a small fundraiser for the school and promote one of many positive activities that DFC puts on for the community.
The tournament will begin at 9am and run all day with the championship game being held at approximately 5pm.
