THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police report that three people were taken to hospital following a serious accident on Oliver Road last night. The accident happened at about 9:00PM, near Mapleward Road.
Thunder Bay Road Conditions Slippery with Snow
Three people were taken to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, two of the injured persons are reportedly in serious condition with life-threatening injuries. The other injured person has non-life threatening injuries.
Two vehicles were involved in the accident.
Oliver Road was closed between Highgate Road and Burns Road as the Thunder Bay Police Traffic Investigators are on the scene.
Names of the injured have not been released.
On Friday, Thunder Bay Police released a piece on local road conditions:
1) It has warmed a bit this afternoon relative to recent daily highs
2) The snow flurries that we are presently experiencing will continue until late afternoon, making roads snow covered.
3) Traffic lights are LED technology. They do NOT warm up and melt the snow as they did in the past. Drivers will need to watch more carefully at distances.
4) Road surfaces are still icy from previous cold temperatures. Salt is expected to be ineffective until ambient temperatures reach -15 C.
5) Pedestrians will have difficulty hearing approaching vehicles due to head covering clothing.
