Charlie Hebdo to Be Honorary Citizen of Paris
THUNDER BAY – NEWS – Paris is standing strong. The Mayor of Paris is leading the charge with her citizens in not buckling under to the threat of terrorism. The attack today has likely made the issue of freedom more important and more dear to the hearts of people around the world.
In Paris, following the attack against the editor of Charlie Hebdo, the Anne Hidalgo. the Mayor of Paris has reacted with emotion in an official statement, announcing together an outstanding Council of Paris Friday morning to offer to Charlie Hebdo “Honorary Citizen” of the city of Paris.
To mark its solidarity with the victims, and the total condemnation of this attack, Mayor Anne Hidalgo will convene the Council of Paris on Friday at 9AM, so that Parisians elected representatives can pay solemn tribute to the victims and gather in the defense of democracy facing barbarism.
At that time the council will offer Charlie Hebdo “Honorary Citizenship” of the City of Paris.
Moreover, with the establishment of the level “attack alert”, the City of Paris is also fully mobilized to ensure enhanced vigilance in protecting Parisians.
Canada’s Federal Leadership Stands with Paris
Prime Minister Harper stated, “I am angered and saddened to hear of the terrorist attack today in the offices of the Parisian news magazine “Charlie Hebdo,” which has killed at least 12 individuals, including two police officers.
“On behalf of all Canadians, I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of those who lost their lives during this heinous crime and wish a speedy recovery to those injured. The perpetrators of this attack must be apprehended and brought to justice.
“This barbaric act, along with recent attacks in Sydney, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, and Ottawa, is a grim reminder that no country is immune to the types of terrorist attacks we have seen elsewhere around the world.
“Canada and its allies will not be intimidated and will continue to stand firmly together against terrorists who would threaten the peace, freedom and democracy our countries so dearly value. Canadians stand with France on this dark day.”
Tom Mulcair stated, ““New Democrats are shocked, horrified and saddened by this terrible attack against democracy and freedom of the press. We stand with the world in condemning this senseless violence. On behalf of all New Democrats, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed, and to the people of France.
“Freedom of speech is a fundamental and universal value. We will never be silenced by cowardly acts like these.“
Justin Trudeau stated, “We condemn today’s horrific attacks in Paris. Our condolences and support go to the people of France, the victims, and their families.”
