Wasaya GroupTHUNDER BAY – AVIATION – Winter weather has hit some northern communities harder than you might think. This morning, flights were cancelled or delayed by Bearskin Air, North Star Air and Wasaya Airways.

Sharon Smith Baxter from Wasaya says, “The unfavourable weather conditions that have affected Northwestern Ontario have had a significant impact on flights for Wasaya Airways. The freezing rain and snow coupled with low ceilings have led to poor visibility at all of our Northern airports. As a result of this weather phenomenon, we have cancelled a total of 80 flights since Thursday, December 11th”.

The conditions have caused delays and backed up air travel.

Smith Baxter states, “Wasaya is working hard to overcome Mother Nature’s gift of warm wet weather in the south and snow in the north, ahead of Christmas. Extra passenger and cargo flights will be operating in the coming days to ensure our guests make it to their final destination. In addition, as a result of not flying for the past three days, Wasaya is holding a significant amount of delayed baggage and cargo that our staff will be working diligently to get where they need to be as quickly as possible. We are planning to have all the guests, bags and cargo delivered to their intended destinations by the end of this week”.
