THUNDER BAY – LETTERS – I was one of the truckers who got stuck in White River because of the recent highway closure. I was stuck there for 16 hours in all. I was very happy to see the highway open, but was not prepared for the road conditions I found myself having to drive on! And I drive this highway 4 times a week!!

The roads had an inch of ice on them. We had no control on the hills and corners, salt does not work when it’s that cold and there was not enough sand on the roads to get traction!

A good number of trucks ended up in the ditch, or stuck on the hills because they were unable to get up them!

Those drivers being unable to get up the icy hills caused more problems for the other drivers!

The road should have never been opened until it was clear of ice!

When you open a road to traffic, you are effectively telling people that the road is safe, and to drive with caution!

I did not feel safe what-so-ever. I was not even sure if I was going to make it home to see my family!

I would have gladly stayed in White River for one more night in order to have a safer drive home!

But truckers and the general public take your word that when you re-open a road, that it Is safe to drive!

No way and by no stretch of the imagination was that road safe to drive!

You put our lives in danger! Because of your stupid rules and fines you have on the contractors that are doing a job!

Just to open a road!

Think twice before you blame the plow drivers, and contractors! They work hard. But they can only do what the weather allows them to do! Two of their trucks ended up in the ditch the night before!!

WE LIVE IN CANADA! We get snow every year, sometimes more, sometimes less.

Yet all you guys do is blame them for not doing the job fast enough!

I would rather have the job done right, and make it home! rather then fast and DEAD!!! injured, or involved in an accident where others might end up dead or injured!!!
