THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – BRRRR! The warmer weather is giving way to some very cold temperatures.

Updated – Monday December 1 – All alerts for Northwestern Ontario are over

Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Fort Severn
  • Dryden
  • Kenora
  • Red Lake
  • Sioux Lookout
  • Atikokan
  • Fort Hope – Lansdowne House – Ogoki
  • Webequie
  • Ignace

Cold wind chills expected tonight into Monday morning.

A very cold Arctic airmass, more typical of mid winter, has become established over Far Northern Ontario. Westerly winds near 20 km/h will combine with the frigid Arctic air mass to produce wind chills of minus 40 to minus 44 in many areas overnight and Monday morning.

Folks outside should dress appropriately and exercise caution as frostbite on exposed skin may occur in 10 minutes or less.

This is close to, but does not quite reach the extreme cold weather warning criterion of wind chills reaching minus 45.
