THUNDER BAY – To try to understand the emotions and the feelings in the United States and other countries United States Senator Cory Booker from New Jersey writes, “I wrote this in 1992 at 22 years old, hours after The Rodney King verdict.
I was anguished, raw, hurt, angry and frustrated.
I’ve worked in the 22 years since writing this to help our nation advance toward greater understanding, healing and justice.
I’ve grown much in 22 years and have had some wise, extraordinary teachers and friends from all different backgrounds who have emboldened my hope and love and belief in what is possible – despite set backs, mistakes, my own failings and other points of anguish and frustration.
I hope reading this piece from 22 years ago helps to foster understanding now.
We have work to do. We are far more interdependent than we realize.
Unyielding love,
Determined non-violence,
Relentless work:
‘The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.’ – Martin Luther King, Jr.
