Snow Squalls East of Thunder Bay
THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – Travel east of Thunder Bay into the Marathon / Schreiber area will present the potential for challenges today. There are snow squall warnings in effect for the area.
Thunder Bay is starting Sunday with cold temperatures this morning. Minus 16c temperatures are greeting you today.
The local forecast is for clear skies with a chance of snow flurries by later in the day.
Snow squall watch in effect for:
- Marathon – Schreiber
- White River
- Pukaskwa
Southwest winds ahead of an approaching weather system are expected to generate flurries and possible snow squalls today and tonight for areas northeast of Lake Superior. At this point, any snow squalls that do develop are expected to shift, thus limiting amounts.
Locally, up to 15 cm may be expected by Monday morning.
Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably, changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
